Phones and Phone Calls
While you are in the hospital, you may phone any other room or office by dialing the four numbers for that extension.
To make a local outside call from a patient's room, dial "9" first, then the number. For long distance calling or credit card calls, dial 9 and the 1-800 number on the back of the card. For long distance collect calls, dial 9-0, and you will get an outside operator. A company that is not connected with Central Baptist will charge the call to your home phone bill. Calling cards are available in the Central Baptist Gift Shop, located in Building E, and in the stamp machine, located in the lobby of Building D.
Pay phones are located in the lobbies of the buildings and the second floor waiting area.
Family members and friends may call the hospital operator at
(859) 260-6148 to get the direct telephone number for a patient's room. Calls to patient rooms are not accepted between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. to make sure our patients get enough rest. All patients may make outgoing calls at any hour.
For telephone numbers of hospital departments, services and nursing units, please refer to our
phone directory.
Smoking
Central Baptist Hospital has a clean air policy and does not permit smoking inside the building. Many of our patients have lung problems and any smoke is detrimental to them. Visitors may smoke outside the main entrance in the designated smoking area.
Visiting Hours
Having visitors can help the patient's recovery process. However, rest is also an important part of the patient's recovery. General visiting hours for relatives and friends age 10 or older are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Children under 10 are allowed to visit, but must remain under the supervision of an adult at all times.
Critical Care Visiting Hours
The
critical care units are departments where patients receive high level intensive nursing and medical care. Unit staff members will work with your family to allow as much visiting time as possible. Please check with the unit staff regarding time and visiting guidelines. Our goal is to incorporate families and significant others into the plan of care and health education whenever possible.
Mother/Baby Visiting Hours
Visiting hours for new mothers in our
family-centered obstetrics area are 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Visitors are welcome throughout the day, and one support person is welcome to stay overnight. To protect a newborn from colds and infectious diseases, we recommend that children other than siblings do not visit and that visitors are limited. Children need to be accompanied by an adult other than the patient at all times. Visitors who have any of the following should not handle a baby: fever, cold, diarrhea, an open sore, chicken pox, measles or any contagious disease. Everyone should wash his/her hands with soap and water before handling the baby.
NICU Visiting Hours
Parents, grandparents and great-grandparents are allowed to visit their infant in the
neonatal intensive care unit or NICU. Family and friends may also visit if accompanied by a parent. Visitors are limited to two per family at a time. Visitors are welcome to visit twenty-four hours per day with the exception of shift changes. These times are:
- 7 to 7:45 a.m.;
- 3 to 3:45 p.m.; and
- 11 to 11:45 p.m.
Pediatric Visiting Hours
Visiting hours in our
pediatric unit are from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Parents are permitted to visit anytime. Siblings may visit during general visiting hours, but may not spend the night. We ask that families limit visitors to two at any one time.
Children Under 10 Years of Age
Children under 10 are asked to remain with adult supervision in the waiting room on the floor on which the patient resides. Exceptions will be made under special circumstances, such as terminal illness and for siblings visiting mothers in our mother-baby unit. Children under 10 may not visit the patient without prior agreement between the family and the patient's nurse (and the other patients, if in a semiprivate room). Support for decision making may include consultation with a social worker,
chaplain and/or
patient representative to evaluate the psychosocial, cultural, emotional and/or spiritual needs of the patient. The staff has the prerogative to ask families to move to the front lobby if children are sick or if they are judged to be disruptive to other visitors and/or patients. Children who are visiting should be free from fever and communicable disease.
Waiting Rooms
Waiting rooms are located throughout the hospital. Please refer to the
floor plan for Building D to find the right room for you. Remember, smoking is not permitted in Central Baptist Hospital. Our very ill patients appreciate your compliance with our no smoking policy.
Because of safety regulations, waiting rooms cannot be used for overnight sleeping. For your convenience, Central Baptist Hospital has made arrangements with several area motels for
overnight stays for patient families.
